EMERGENCY HUMANITARIAN APPEAL | Assam Flood 2026

Supporting Flood-Affected Communities Across Upper Assam (Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat)

The devastating floods of 2026 have caused widespread destruction across Upper Assam, particularly in the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat and Golaghat, leaving thousands of families displaced and struggling to recover. Homes, agricultural land, livelihoods, drinking water sources and community infrastructure have been severely affected, while vulnerable communities continue to face growing humanitarian needs.

Since the onset of the crisis, the North-East Affected Area Development Society (NEADS) has adopted a proactive, community-led humanitarian response. From the anticipation phase, NEADS has monitored the evolving situation, conducted Rapid Needs Assessments (RNAs), produced regular Situation Reports (SitRePs), coordinated with local authorities and humanitarian partners, and initiated a Multi-Sectoral Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) to guide both emergency response and early recovery.

NEADS’ Response So Far

NEADS has already:

• Reached more than 45,000 flood-affected people through humanitarian response activities.
• Conducted rapid field assessments in the worst-affected communities.
• Coordinated with district administrations, humanitarian organisations and the State Inter-Agency Group (IAG).
• Mobilised volunteers and local community institutions for relief and recovery efforts.
• Undertaken PDNAs to identify priority recovery needs and response gaps.

Building on these efforts, NEADS aims to scale up its response to reach 100,000 flood-affected people across Upper Assam through integrated humanitarian assistance and early recovery interventions.

Current assessments highlight urgent needs for:

• Safe drinking water, WASH support and hygiene promotion
• Emergency shelter and shelter repair assistance
• Essential household and non-food items
• Hygiene and dignity kits for women and girls
• Health and public health preparedness
• Food security and livelihood recovery
• Protection for children, women, older persons and persons with disabilities
• Early recovery and community resilience
